Are you too busy to read this?

It's that time of year again! We're in the midst of derby parties, graduation celebrations, Mother's Day gatherings, festivals, and cookouts. Along with these joys come allergies, rain showers, and the seasonal swap-out of our wardrobes. It can feel like a whirlwind for many of us, with so much happening all at once.

When I find myself overwhelmed by stress or anxiety, I've learned to channel that energy into simple activities. Whether it's deep cleaning the refrigerator, taking a leisurely walk, doing some gentle stretching, organizing the flatware drawer, tackling the dishes, or prepping veggies for our daily salads, I find solace in focusing on achievable tasks. These small actions not only tidy up the house and simplify routines but also lift my spirits.

Here are some simple steps to kickstart your decluttering journey, even when you're feeling overwhelmed:

  1. Start Small: Begin by tackling a single drawer or shelf. Take out the recycling or gather items for donation. Small actions add up!

  2. Make a List: Create a list of specific projects and goals for each area of your home. It's a helpful reference when you're unsure where to begin.

  3. Prioritize: Address the area that bothers you the most. Starting there can provide a sense of relief and motivation.

  4. Make Time: Schedule dedicated decluttering time on your calendar and honor that commitment to yourself. Consistency is key.

  5. Practice Self-Compassion: Instead of criticizing yourself for the current state of your home, practice kindness and understanding. Negative self-talk only adds unnecessary stress. Celebrate small victories along the way!

Remember, habits are formed through repetition. The more you practice decluttering and tidying up, the easier it becomes. Let's embrace the journey towards a simpler, more peaceful home together.

P.S. Year of Creativity update. Have you ever "rainbow-ed" your books (see pic above)? Even though the librarian in me cringed just a little bit as I was arranging our books by color (eek, they're not categorized by subject matter??!), I got over it fast. Seeing our books arranged this way makes me happy and I find myself looking at the books more often!
