Live Light tip #1: Tend to the resistance

During the process of sorting and purging, your mind may work against you. Thoughts like “I don’t know how to do this,” “this is hard,” “I want this done now,” “I’m so overwhelmed,” and “I give up” can quickly hijack the project, leaving you feeling frustrated and defeated.

Your body might send signals and clues too. Does your jaw feel tight? Are your shoulders tense?

When you feel resistance in your body or mind creep up (and it will inevitably creep up), instead of turning away from or ignoring it, turn toward it. Sit with the resistance. Pay attention to these signals and ask yourself what might be going on.

Why might these thoughts or feelings be presenting themselves?
What might your resistance be trying to tell you?
Do you need a five minute break?
How might you come back to the project with fresh eyes and a fresh perspective?
Is now not a good time to work on this project?
Are emotions rising up that you don’t want to or aren’t ready to feel?

When you feel “off,” stay curious. If you dive deep, you may discover a new-found strength, tenacity and a willingness to let go of the physical stuff that might be holding you back.
